Abaseen is the name of a historical river in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan. It is a symbolic representation of the local culture and has been the ideal of many poets of Pashto Language. There are different origins of the name Abaseen. The common is known as The Father of the Rivers,(Aba-father,Seen-River). A more acceptable meaning is explained by a local intellectual, Sher Ali Bacha. According to him, the name is derived from Aab-Cheen (water of China) as the river takes origin from China. With the passage of time and probably with Arabic influence, the name became Abaseen.
